DescriptionWest Springfield High School incorporates the complete renovation of the school structure, as well as demolition of the existing courtyard infill and certain portions of the exterior walls for additions. The additions are located in various areas of the building and contain a new upper level to be built above a portion of the existing two-story classroom wing. In general, the construction is steel framed with CMU and metal stud back up for brick veneer. All Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical systems are being replaced as well as windows, roofing, and flashing.
All work was completed in phases, allowing for the continued occupancy of the existing building during construction. To protect students and staff health and enhance the learning environment of school children, the new school building has been designed with CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools) criteria in mind and must achieve the CHPS Verified status.
