Oakton High School

Discover the transformation of Oakton High School, a monumental project encompassing a total of 410,036 square feet, set on a sprawling 58.85-acre campus.  This ambitious endeavor involved a comprehensive overhaul, blending innovative renovations with strategic new additions to elevate the educational experience for students and staff alike.

Phase one heralded the commencement of the revitalization journey, introducing a striking new front addition.  This section features essential facilities including the main office, student service office, security office, clinic, library, and a state-of-the-art science wing, setting the tone for the school’s modernization.

In phase two, the focus shifted towards enhancing the culinary and cultural landscape of Oakton High School.  A groundbreaking cafeteria/kitchen renovation and expansion showcased FCPS’s pioneering cafeteria prototype, complete with a built-in-café.  Simultaneously, the planetarium underwent a remarkable transformation, now equipped with cutting-edge software and equipment to inspire scientific curiosity among students.

Phase three witnessed the revitalization of critical areas such as the auxiliary gym, team locker rooms, social studies classrooms, STEM labs, English classrooms, and the iconic auditorium.  A new two-story addition further expanded the school’s capacity, accommodating additional classrooms and a dedicated music wing, while demolition of the old locker room paved the way for a substantial 5,000-square-foot expansion to the main gym.

The culmination of the project unfolded in phase four, culminating in the renovation and expansion of the main gymnasium, equipped with upgraded flooring, bleachers, MEP equipment, and dedicated spaces for athletics.  Simultaneously, a new art wing emerged, featuring specialized facilities including a 3D modeling lab, photographic/dark room, and computer graphics lab, fostering creativity and innovation.

Beyond the confines of the building, site upgrades played a pivotal role in enhancing the school’s functionality and aesthetic appeal.  New stormwater management systems were implemented alongside a revamped main entrance, parking lots, and bus loops.  Athletic infrastructure received a significant boost with the construction of multiple fields and structures, including tennis courts, a state-of-the-art softball complex, complete with fields, a press box, a concession building, outdoor storage, and a ticket booth.

Throughout the four-year construction, henley remained committed to maintaining access to all fields for sports and extracurricular activities, ensuring continuity for both the school and the wider community.  The revitalized Oakton High School stands as a beacon of educational excellence, blending tradition with innovation to create an inspiring environment for generations to come.

Self-Perform Work by Henley included building demolition, earthwork, concrete, rough carpentry, roof blocking, and installation of doors, frames, and hardware.
