  • DescriptionRenovation of the Gaithersburg Library expanded the original 33,700 SF structure (Built by Henley in 1981) by adding an additional 22,200 SF on the main level​ front, back and sides of the existing building. An additional 7,900 SF was added on a partial second and third levels that provide space for meeting, storage, and mechanical needs. A satellite office of the Charles W. Gilchrist Center for Cultural Diversity is housed on the second floor offering free or low-cost English language classes, among other services. With a long list of sustainable features added, the Gaithersburg Library was awarded LEED Gold status, the first in Montgomery County. The design/construction teams used various strategies to earn LEED rating points through; sustainable site, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, as well as several additional points in innovation & design.
